Nagaland Congress strengthened by 15 new leaders from NPP

15 leaders of the National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland unit, including Vice President Bitong Sangtam and General Secretary (Organization) L. Hiketo Shohe, officially joined the Congress on January 20. The announcement was made at a press conference held at Congress Bhavan, Kohima, by Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir. Welcoming the new members, NPCC Working President Khriedi Theunuo described the move as a “giant step” for the Congress, bolstering its presence in the state. Jamir emphasized that this development marks a “turning point” for the party in Nagaland, which has been striving to regain its foothold in the region.

“Their decision to join Congress is a testament to the party’s commitment to serving the people. With these dynamic leaders on board, we are ready to march forward and work for the betterment of Nagaland,” Jamir stated. Sangtam clarified that their shift was not due to dissatisfaction with the NPP but rather a pursuit of greater political opportunities. “Congress offers a better platform for young leaders to grow and contribute to the grassroots,” he said, expressing optimism about the party’s future in the state.

Shohe echoed similar sentiments, highlighting Congress’ vision and ethos as key factors in their decision. “We believe in Congress’ ability to bring meaningful change and are committed to working hard for its success,” he added. The group of new Congress members includes key NPP figures, such as Bipin Kumar Sha, Akito Chishi, Khekai Zhimo, and others from various roles, ranging from state executive members to youth and mahila representatives.
