Nagaland BJP leader Mmhonlumo Kikon steps down from party posts

In a significant political development in Nagaland, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former National Spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon has stepped down from the party, ending a decade-long association. His resignation from both the primary and active membership, as well as all party posts, takes effect immediately.In a formal letter to the President of the BJP Nagaland State Unit, Kikon explained that his decision came after “careful thought and deep introspection.” While describing his journey in the party as meaningful and enriching, he noted that the time had come to explore new opportunities for public service and policy engagement beyond the framework of party politics.

Over the years, Kikon has held several key responsibilities in the BJP, including serving as Prabhari (in-charge) of BJP Mizoram and as one of the party’s National Spokespersons. He expressed deep appreciation to the BJP leadership for the trust and confidence placed in him, as well as to colleagues who worked alongside him through various political campaigns and organisational initiatives.“My decision is guided by the need to explore new forms of public engagement that I believe will allow me to continue contributing to society in meaningful ways,” Kikon wrote in his resignation letter.

The departing leader also extended his best wishes to the BJP Nagaland State Unit, expressing hope for their continued growth and success in the state’s political landscape. His resignation comes at a time when political realignments and leadership changes are expected ahead of future electoral battles in Nagaland.
