An army officer at Rangapahar Military Station in the Dimapur area bravely and selflessly prevented two little boys from drowning in the Dhansiri River on Sunday afternoon. The two boys, who were between the ages of five and six, were playing by the riverbank when they unintentionally slipped into the murky, deep water. A woman’s and the sons’ calls for assistance were heard by Major Vishavdeep Singh Attri, who happened to be walking through the neighborhood. The courageous officer acted without hesitation and without regard for his own safety.
As a skilled swimmer, he plunged into the river and battled the currents, slush, and plants to get to the children who were having difficulty. Through tremendous courage and perseverance, he was able to safely get both boys to shore. The boys were reunited with their families and did not sustain any significant injuries. Witnesses and locals praised Major Attri for his bravery and foresight in averting a possible disaster.
