State chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Naga cultural heritage during the Sekrenyi-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival at Naga Heritage Village. He expressed gratitude for an honorary doctorate from North East Christian University and called for continued efforts to protect and nurture Naga traditions. Rio shared his experiences as a contractor and acknowledged constitutional safeguards provided by India, such as Article 371(A).
The chief minister of the Naga tribes announced that all tribes have documented their customary laws and praised their forefathers’ wisdom. He urged the present generation to uphold these values and leave a legacy of honesty, integrity, and cultural pride. The chief minister also expressed appreciation for the Angami Public Organisation (APO) for organizing Sekrenyi celebrations.
The Sekrenyi-cum-Mini Hornbill Festival showcased the Naga people’s rich cultural heritage and community spirit, featuring a captivating performance of the traditional cotton-threading folk song and various traditional games. The festival also featured Naga-style wrestling, tug-of-war, and a tug-of-war event, showcasing the vibrant spirit of the Naga people.
