Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday urged the people of the state to support the government’s efforts in restoring peace, emphasizing that all critical issues can be resolved through political and diplomatic channels. Speaking at a public programme, Singh acknowledged the hardships caused by the prolonged ethnic violence that has gripped the state since May 2023. The violence has claimed over 250 lives and displaced thousands. “There must be a fault on our part as well,” Singh admitted. “We have been working by taking advice from others. What is happening in the state is not good. However, with the cooperation and efforts of many, normalcy has mostly returned.”
The Chief Minister called for unity among the people, stating, “Without a division between the hills and the valley, let’s try to restore peace. We are all Manipuris. We are all Indians.” He added that solutions to the state’s challenges must be sought through dialogue, asserting, “Conflict cannot bring anything good.” Referring to recent incidents, Singh condemned the bombing at Kangchup Phayeng in Imphal West district earlier this week, describing it as “very unfortunate.” He assured that police investigations are underway to identify those responsible and that strict legal actions will follow.
The Chief Minister also expressed hope for the complete restoration of peace in the state, urging everyone to pray and work towards a harmonious future. “Let’s hope full normalcy returns soon. Together, we can rebuild our state,” he said.
