Mukul Turns Down Speculations On Joining Npp

Leader of the Opposition and former Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Sunday turned down speculations about the possibility of joining the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), terming the reports ‘wishful thinking’ by certain sections. The rebuttal comes in the wake of reports that the former Chief Minister was in New Delhi on Saturday, coinciding with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong’s trip to the national capital.

“Such claims are absurd, as I have been in my constituency (Songsak), meeting residents and working on strengthening the party at the grassroots on Saturday. The place I stay in Songsak (Agalgre) has a poor phone network; as such, I have not been able to communicate with the outside world. But rest assured, I am not joining the NPP,” Mukul said.

On Sunday, the TMC leader was involved in a number of pre-Christmas events, which included visits to various churches in the area. On the recent photos of him, Conrad and Prestone surfacing online, which led to speculations of his move to the NPP, Mukul said that as the Leader of the Opposition and comrades, such meetings were common and did not in any way indicate any political move.

“We are colleagues but from different planes of thought. The NPP itself faces a dire future, with many not happy with the leadership. They should look into their own people instead of spreading false narratives,” said Mukul. On the contrary, the TMC leader stated his own party was making preparations to strongly contest the upcoming GHADC elections and that there was no time for other needless things.
