MSCW Organizes Public Hearing in Chandel, Women Raise Key Concerns

The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with various organizations including the District Administration Chandel and the National Commission for Women (NCW), held a “Mahila Jansunwai (Women’s Public Hearing)” on March 8, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall in Chandel. This event was part of the observance of International Women’s Day. Key figures such as Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, the Chairperson of MSCW, and other local officials attended, emphasizing the importance of addressing women’s safety and justice.

During her address, Chairperson Monsang underscored the need for women facing harassment or gender-related challenges to voice their grievances publicly, highlighting that the Mahila Jansunwai initiative is designed to facilitate their access to institutional support. She encouraged a bold approach from women in articulating their issues, reinforcing that the event’s goal is to provide necessary assistance and timely resolutions.

The event offered a platform for women to register complaints regarding various issues, including domestic violence, workplace harassment, and other forms of gender-based discrimination. A special hearing at the deputy commissioner’s office allowed women to directly present their cases, with legal advisors and officials on hand to provide guidance and ensure a structured follow-up on complaints.

Attendance included officials from the District Administration, the District Legal Services Authority, police representatives, and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), all working together to enhance the accessibility of support for women in Chandel District. The substantial turnout indicated a strong commitment to fostering a supportive environment for women’s rights and justice.
