Mizoram Health Department prepares a campaign to eradicate measles and rubella

Measles and Rubella diseases are very common in all Indian states, especially in Mizoram. The symptoms of the disease are not severe, but they can cause complications. The Government of India has planned to eradicate measles and rubella by December 2023, as these two diseases can be prevented by vaccines. The Government of India has planned to launch Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 in August, September, and October this year to eradicate these two diseases and ensure that all pregnant women and children receive vaccination.

The Health Department of the Mizoram Government is also preparing to implement the campaign throughout Mizoram to eradicate measles and rubella. The vaccine is given to pregnant women and children against 11 diseases under the Universal Immunisation Programme under the National Health Mission. Infant mortality and maternal mortality have also been significantly reduced by vaccination. Universal Immunization Programme, NHM, and MOMENTUM Routine Immunization  Transformation & Equity Project, John Snow India also organized a training for media personnel today.

Dr. A.S. Gopal Krishna Soni, Project Director, USAID supported MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation & Equity Project said, “This project has already achieved success in Covid-19 vaccination in 18 states of India in collaboration with the government In Mizoram, the Covid-19 vaccine has been successfully implemented in collaboration with church and community leaders.”
