The iconic Swahid Smarak, a memorial for over 850 martyrs of the Assam Movement will be inaugurated on Wednesday coinciding with Swahid Divas at the Boragaon area of Guwahati. It may be noted that the foundation stone of the Swahid Smarak Khetra, laid in 2019, has been built by the State government in memory of the martyrs of the Assam Agitation on a sprawling land area covering more than 98 bighas. The project includes facilities such as water bodies, an auditorium, a prayer hall, a cycle track, and provisions for a sound and light show, which will highlight different aspects of the Assam Agitation and Assam’s history. The family members of the martyrs have also been invited to the inauguration ceremony.
