Meira Paibis host 10-kilometer torch rally for Manipur

In a call for peace and unity, the Meira Paibis of Thangmeiband and neighboring areas organized a peaceful torch rally on September 9, demanding a resolution to the ongoing conflict in Manipur. The state has been mired in unrest for over 16 months, with little progress toward a peaceful solution.

The protest, which started at THAU Ground, saw demonstrators marching approximately 10 kilometers, deliberately avoiding sensitive locations such as the Raj Bhavan and the Chief Minister’s residence. Unlike previous rallies marked by tension, this demonstration remained calm, with participants chanting slogans for peace and unity.

Protesters called for the release of village volunteers, the removal of the Director General of Police and the security adviser, and urged the government to transfer unified command control to the state. They also opposed combing operations in the valley districts, citing the need for better handling of the situation.
