Meghalaya Police Personnel Attacked by Mob in Nuh While Nabbing ATM Theft Suspect

A mob attacked a Meghalaya Police team in Nuh district, Haryana, as they attempted to detain Rahul Khan, a suspect in a series of ATM robberies. This incident unfolded on the Shikrawa–Bhadas Road, resulting in injuries to one police officer. In response, police have filed an attempt-to-murder case against twelve identified and several unidentified individuals involved in the mob action to liberate Khan.

The Meghalaya Police, dispatched to escort Khan, witnessed a crowd of 20 to 30 individuals surrounding their vehicle. The mob engaged in violent attempts to snatch keys and firearms from the police while pelting stones. In self-defense, police were compelled to use firearms, resulting in a local youth, Tarif Khan, sustaining a leg injury from a bullet; he has since been hospitalized and is stable.

Ayush Yadav, the Additional Superintendent of Police in Nuh, reported that Khan made a sudden attempt to seize control of the police vehicle to escape, prompting the mob’s aggressive actions. Forensic examination of the scene revealed empty cartridges and blood samples, and the police are actively raiding locations to apprehend remaining suspects related to the incident. To manage potential misinformation following the event, authorities are monitoring social media platforms.

The Meghalaya Police had come to Haryana regarding Khan, who is implicated in multiple ATM theft cases across different states, including Delhi and Arunachal Pradesh, with active cases registered against him in various police stations including Mawngap in East Khasi Hills, as well as Dwarka and Dabri in Delhi.
