Meghalaya is hailed by PM Modi as a model for a resilient, independent India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed Meghalaya’s development strategy, referring to the state as a “blueprint for a resilient and self-reliant India.” His comments followed Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s post on X, in which she outlined Meghalaya’s advancements after a four-day visit to the state from July 10–13. Sitharaman praised the state’s inclusive and sustainable development programs in a piece that appeared in a national daily, pointing out the importance of women’s empowerment, youth involvement, and community involvement in bringing about change.

“I was struck by the Meghalayan people’s tenacity, optimism, and balance with the environment during my trip. Meghalaya now provides a model for a dynamic, self-assured, and independent India where government assistance and communal spirit are in harmony. Mithela Meghalaya and Khublei Shibun, until next time!” she wrote. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma reposted the tweets, citing the government’s goal of boosting the state’s economy by USD 1 billion by 2028.
