Meghalaya High Court Asks Govt To Submit Reports on Steps Taken to Curb Drug Abuse

The Meghalaya High Court has mandated the state government and relevant authorities to provide comprehensive status reports detailing the actions taken to combat drug abuse and enhance rehabilitation systems for those affected by addiction. This directive was issued during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) initiated by Mewaker Lyngdoh. The bench, consisting of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh, requested all parties involved to submit reports regarding the enforcement of measures aimed at curbing the escalating drug issue. During the proceedings, Additional Advocate General Khalid Khan informed the court that a Monitoring Committee had been established by the Chief Secretary on December 16, 2025, in accordance with a prior order dated December 10, 2025. The committee convened its inaugural meeting on December 19, 2025, and is anticipated to propose suitable recommendations within three weeks to implement structured actions to prevent drug addiction among children and to tackle substance abuse comprehensively within the state.
