The High Court of Meghalaya expects the state government to release funds in excess of Rs 6 crore for carrying out permanent repairing of roads in Nongrimmaw, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, prior to the monsoon season. During the hearing of a petition on Tuesday, the Additional Advocate General (AAG) tendered a report, accompanied by photographs showing the repairs carried out by authorities. The court said it appeared that the department took immediate steps and repaired the roads and made them motorable, although temporarily.
“The respondent authorities have also addressed a communication to the concerned Department such as PHE, SMB for repairing the damaged water lines during the repairing works carried out by the PWD,” a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh, said in an order. The court said it also appeared that the contractors of the department concerned were asked to repair the badly damaged roads to make them motorable.
A December 4, 2025 letter from the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads) and addressed to the Chief Engineer, PWD (Roads) was annexed to the AAG’s report wherein an amount of Rs 6,65,42,544 was sought by way of funds for carrying out permanent repair works in the area.The AAG submitted that it will take some time for the government to sanction the amount. “We expect that the funds, as sought for, are released prior to monsoon so that the repair of roads can be carried out. In view of the aforesaid, nothing survives for further consideration in this petition. Petition is disposed of,” the court said.
