The Meghalaya government will introduce legislation to control both government and private medical institutes in the state. This comes after the PA Sangma International Medical College at the University of Science and Technology. Meghalaya has received approval from the National Medical Commission to initiate MBBS courses. The PA Sangma International Medical College & Hospital was founded on the proposed medical college site at the University of Science and Technology. It will begin offering MBBS courses in 2024-25, with a capacity of 150 students. The decision was made on October 18 at a state Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

She also stated that another meeting would be held to discuss the future course of action. On October 14, Ampareen Lyngdoh delivered an update on the ongoing growth of medical education in the state. The Shillong Medical College project is doing well and is expected to be completed by 2025-26. Lyngdoh also presented an update on the Tura Medical College, where infrastructure is apparently being built at a quick speed.
