The Central Government has allocated funds for the construction of a Government Model Degree College in Mawthengkut village, Mawshynrut, as part of the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan scheme. This initiative aims to benefit students in Mawshynrut and surrounding areas, including Rambrai-Jyrngam. Meghalaya has secured approval for two colleges to be established, one in Mawshynrut and another in Jalaphet, East Jaintia Hills District. Cabinet Minister and Mawshynrut MLA Methodius Dkhar, along with local leaders and engineers, recently assessed the site designated for the college and hostel buildings, which are projected to cost approximately Rs 15 crore. Dkhar highlighted that the college will alleviate financial pressures on parents by providing access to higher education locally, thus preventing the need for students to travel outside the region. He also expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, and the Education Minister for their assistance. In response, local residents have shown appreciation towards the State Government and Dkhar for addressing a long-standing demand within the community.
