The Meghalaya Cricket Association was honoured for entering the BCCI Elite Group for the first time at the 4th North East Cricket Development Council (NECDC) Achievers’ Night held in Gangtok, Sikkim. The prestigious event celebrated standout cricket performances from the 2024–25 domestic season.
The ceremony, hosted at Chintan Hall, was attended by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang as chief guest, along with Speaker Mingma Norbu Sherpa and several cabinet ministers. Senior cricket officials, including BCCI Apex Council member MKJ Mazumdar and NECDC Co-Convenor Naba Bhattacharjee, were also present. The highlight of the evening was Meghalaya’s recognition for its historic participation in the BCCI’s Elite Group, a significant step forward for cricket in the Northeast.
Cricketers—both men and women—from all six NECDC member states were felicitated across various formats. Presidents and secretaries of the state associations were also acknowledged for their contributions. As a token of appreciation, the Meghalaya Cricket Association presented traditional Khasi and Garo gifts to Chief Minister Tamang.
