The 2nd Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) meeting began on Monday at the Mahatma Mandir in Gujarat’s capital Gandhinagar. The meeting was attended by 130 delegates from G20 member states, 11 invited countries and 14 international organizations. The meeting began with a presentation on best practices in water resource management by the G20 member countries. The ECSWG meeting is being held from March 27-29. Earlier on Sunday, the G20 representatives were traditionally welcomed at the Ahmedabad airport.
The meeting discussed key initiatives such as NamamiGange, climate-resilient infrastructure, participatory groundwater management, Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission, as well as thematic areas such as halting land degradation, accelerating ecosystem restoration, encouraging resource efficiency and circular economy, and promoting a climate-friendly blue economy.
G20 member countries shared their best practices on water management, with Italy sharing its expertise on drought management and China on groundwater management. The second meeting of the ECSWG in Gandhinagar was an important step towards promoting the efforts of G20 countries, invited countries and international organizations towards a sustainable and resilient future. The third and fourth meetings will be held in Mumbai and Chennai respectively.
