Medical Experts Discuss Rational Use of Blood at RIMS CME

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Rational Use of Blood and Patient Blood Management” was organized by the Department of Transfusion Medicine at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, in collaboration with the State Blood Transfusion Council of Manipur. Inaugurated by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, the Director of RIMS, the event featured prominent figures including Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, and Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics). The CME aimed to enhance the knowledge of healthcare professionals regarding evidence-based transfusion practices and patient-centered blood management. Prof. Sharma underscored the necessity for rational blood utilization, ethical practices in transfusion, and the importance of public engagement in voluntary blood donations. The introduction of a plasma apheresis machine highlighted RIMS’ commitment to high-quality healthcare. Various expert speakers presented lectures covering areas such as patient blood management, rational blood component usage, bedside transfusion practices, complications from dengue-related platelet transfusions, and corresponding legal frameworks. The programme garnered active participation from faculty members, residents, medical officers, and other healthcare professionals, aimed at fostering safe and effective transfusion practices.
