Mawlai SC close to title defense after crucial 1-0 victory against Rangdajied

Mawlai SC moved one step closer to defending their OC Blue Shillong Premier League title with a crucial 1-0 win over Rangdajied United FC at SSA Stadium, Polo, on Tuesday. The victory also ended Rangdajied’s title hopes. Earlier in the day, Langsning FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Laitkor SC, reclaiming fourth place in the standings. Khrawkupar Jana (36’) netted the winner for Mawlai, while Melambha Shabong (90’+2) sealed Langsning’s victory in stoppage time.

With two matches remaining, Rangdajied, currently third, can no longer overtake Mawlai’s 41 points. Shillong Lajong FC remains the only title challenger, trailing Mawlai by five points. Meanwhile, Langsning leapfrogged Laitkor to fourth place with 24 points, just one ahead of their rivals, who have a game in hand. Rangdajied created early chances but failed to capitalize, with Mawlai goalkeeper Lambhamiki Lamare making crucial saves. Mawlai took the lead through Khrawkupar, who scored past RUFC’s Meshan Banjop Sumer but received a yellow card for his celebration.

In the earlier fixture, Langsning’s last-minute winner came after Laitkor’s goalkeeper misjudged a free-kick clearance. Despite both teams attempting long-range shots, Langsning held on to their narrow lead. The next league match will see Sawmer SC face Ryntih FC at 3 PM today.
