Manipur’s 351 athletes ready to shine at 38th National Games in Uttarakhand

Manipur is set to field 351 athletes in the upcoming 38th National Games, scheduled to take place in Uttarakhand from January 28. The announcement was made by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam during a press conference on January 20.

The minister highlighted the state’s commitment to supporting its athletes, ensuring they travel to the games by air. “We held a joint meeting with representatives from 23 sports associations to finalize preparations. While five associations could not attend due to communication gaps, the government has resolved to provide full support to all participants,” he said.

The Manipur Olympic Association has submitted a proposed budget estimate for the event, which will be reviewed by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. For players whose associations face unresolved issues, the government will facilitate expenses through Direct Benefit Transfer to their personal accounts, ensuring seamless participation.

Govindas expressed confidence in the athletes’ ability to secure medals, noting Manipur’s strong history of excellence in sports. “Our players have consistently brought laurels to the state, and we are committed to extending all possible assistance to maximize their success,” he added.
