Manipur security forces seize weapons, grenades, and explosives in major operation

Security forces in Manipur have recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives during intensive search and area domination operations in the vulnerable fringe areas of the state’s hill and valley districts. The operations were aimed at neutralizing threats and ensuring stability in the region. During a search operation near the eastern side of IVR between the foothills and Uyok forest under Nambol Police Station in Bishnupur district, security personnel seized a large stockpile of weapons, including an INSAS rifle (5.56 mm), two carbine machine guns (9 mm), a modified .303 sniper rifle with a magnifier scope, an SBBL gun, and a pistol. The recovery also included four No. 36 hand grenades, two tear gas grenades, a grenade-launching tube, and multiple rounds of live ammunition.

In a separate operation in the Loitang Sandum Hill range under Sekmai Police Station, Imphal West district, security forces recovered an SLR rifle with a magazine, a pistol with a damaged magazine, two No. 36 HE hand grenades without detonators, and two Baofeng handheld radio sets.To maintain law and order, security personnel also ensured the safe passage of 475 vehicles carrying essential goods along National Highway-2 (NH-2). Stringent security measures have been implemented in vulnerable zones, with security convoys deployed along sensitive stretches. Across the state, 109 checkpoints (Nakas) were set up in both hill and valley districts, with no detentions reported.

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from believing in rumors or misleading videos on social media. A helpline (9233522822) has been set up by the Central Control Room to verify any questionable content. The government has also issued a stern warning against spreading fake news, stating that legal action will be taken against violators. Additionally, citizens have been urged to return any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to the police or security forces immediately.
