Manipur Police Retaliate: Thoubal guns are recovered; KYKL cadres and fire incident suspects are detained

Manipur Police have made significant arrests and seizures in recent operations aimed at curbing violence and maintaining public safety. On August 25, three cadres of the banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were apprehended in Changangei Uchekon, Imphal West District. The arrested individuals—Oinam Milan Singh (52), Yumnam Ranbir Singh (51), and Khaidem Dhanabir Meitei (24)—are reportedly involved in extortion activities across Imphal. Police recovered four mobile phones, two Aadhaar cards, two driving licenses, two PAN cards, one voter ID card, three wallets, ₹9,125 in cash, and a four-wheeler from their possession.

In a related development, five individuals were arrested on August 24 in connection with a firing incident at Koutruk, Imphal West District. The suspects—Pukhrambam Binit alias Amar Meitei (19), Longjam Momocha alias Vishal Meitei (34), Thokchom Loyasana alias Yaiphaba (41), Wangkhem Dilip Meitei (45), and Ningthoujam Ibomcha Meitei (40)—are facing legal action.

In Thoubal district, security forces have intensified search operations resulting in significant recoveries. During a raid in Waithou area, a 9mm pistol with a magazine, an HE-36 hand grenade, ten live ammunition rounds, and a smoke grenade were seized. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to control violence and ensure law and order. Moreover, 84 vehicles carrying essential supplies were closely monitored on National Highway 2 (NH-2) with strict security measures. The state has also implemented 105 Nakas/checkpoints across hill and valley districts, leading to the detention of 173 individuals for various violations.
