Manipur Police raid in Kangpokpi destroys 45 acres of poppy crops

In a significant anti-drug operation, authorities in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district destroyed illicit poppy cultivation spanning 45 acres, Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced on Friday. The operation took place in the Lhungjang village hill range, located in the Saikul police station area. District police, along with personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), conducted the raid in the presence of an executive magistrate.

Following the destruction of the illegal crops, FIRs (First Information Reports) have been lodged for further investigation and legal action, according to CM Singh.

However, the operation faced resistance when a mob of around 80 people confronted the security team, resulting in the damage of four vehicles, primarily breaking their front windshields. The situation was later brought under control with minimal force, and additional reinforcements were deployed to continue the destruction of the poppy fields. The operation resumed once the area was secured.
