Manipur Police capture key PREPAK member in SUV seizure probe

Manipur Police have apprehended an active cadre of the banned militant group PREPAK, intensifying their investigation into an armed SUV snatching case. The arrested individual, Khumbongmayum Abhijit Singh (26), a resident of Irengband Mairenbam Maning Leikai in Kakching District, was detained in the Kakching Chumnang area.

The arrest is linked to a broader probe into an October 1 incident in which armed assailants forcibly seized a Toyota Fortuner from a civilian in Imphal West District. Subsequent investigations uncovered that the stolen vehicle was being used by Asem Kanan Singh (50), a resident of Uripok Sorbon Thingel, and his associates. Singh, who is reportedly connected to the AT group, remains at large.

On December 22, acting on intelligence inputs, a joint security team raided Singh’s residence. Although Singh and his accomplices evaded capture, the operation yielded significant evidence, including:

A DVD machine for CCTV cameras
A Hyundai i20 vehicle
Three olive-green bags
A yellow life jacket marked SDRF
An air gun (Hurricane MOD-18)
Two bulletproof jackets with metal plates
