Manipur Police arrests KCP cadre beefs up security at checkpoints on key highways

In connection with an assault case in the Lamsang area, Manipur Police arrested Senjam Suraj Meitei, a 25-year-old suspected member of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party. Authorities are stepping up their investigations in response to the arrest, which was made in connection with the October 31 early-morning attack on two Senapati residents. As part of their continuous attempts to curb violent acts linked to insurgent organizations, police have filed a case and are questioning the suspect. In Manipur’s hill and valley districts, security and law enforcement agencies have begun extensive area domination and search operations in high-risk areas. Enhancing stability and reducing insurgency activity in known-risk locations is their aim.

Along National Highways 37 and 2, stringent security measures are in place to guarantee the continuous flow of necessities. Authorities successfully allowed the passage of 159 and 260 cars, respectively, carrying necessary supplies under this arrangement. To ensure safe and effective transportation routes, convoys and increased security coverage have been placed along vulnerable areas.

There are now 99 checkpoints, or “Nakas,” spread over several districts. Police officers patrol these checkpoints, which are positioned strategically in both hill and valley areas, to look for infractions. Seven people have been arrested so far for a variety of offenses in different districts, demonstrating the state’s dedication to upholding law and order.
