Manipur Police apprehended eight members of the banned United Liberation Front of Manipur (Pambei) [UNLF (P)] in Thoubal district on Monday, seizing a cache of arms and ammunition. According to an official statement on Tuesday, the cadres were arrested for allegedly intimidating locals and obstructing the land demarcation process in the district.
The police confiscated an extensive arsenal from the suspects, including three AK-47 rifles, two AK-56 rifles, one M-16 rifle, a 9mm pistol, 147 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 20 rounds of M-16 ammunition, and 25 rounds of 9mm ammunition. Additionally, sixteen mobile phones and an SUV were also seized.
In a separate incident that sparked public concern, a hand grenade was discovered at the entrance of GP Women’s College in Imphal on Monday morning. The college is situated within 100 meters of the Raj Bhavan. The police quickly cordoned off the area to ensure public safety after being alerted about the grenade, said an officer.
