In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on February 17. The arrested individual, identified as Shamurailatpam Bipin Sharma alias Nanda (56), was taken into custody from Khongman Mangjil, Zone-I, in Imphal East district.
Authorities disclosed that Sharma had been involved in extorting money from the general public, government officials, and educational institutions, including schools and colleges. During the arrest, a mobile phone was seized, which is now being examined for further evidence.
Investigations are ongoing to trace Sharma’s potential associates and connections to broader insurgent networks. This arrest is part of intensified efforts by Manipur Police to curb insurgent activities and safeguard public security.
