In a significant crackdown on organized extortion networks in Manipur, law enforcement officials apprehended eight individuals associated with the PREPAK (PRO) during coordinated operations across the Thoubal district on Sunday. The operation resulted in the arrest of six active cadres from various locations under the jurisdiction of the Nongpok Sekmai police station. The arrested individuals include Moirangthem Boboy Singh alias Lalngam (54), Thoudam Tomba Singh alias Thengainaba (63), Konsam Romenkumar Singh alias Samitpa (44), Laishram Nanao Singh alias Lukhoi (35), and two others, Takhellambam Kishan Singh alias Nanao (30) and Takhellambam Washington Singh alias Ibungo (22), all hailing from the region of Chanam Santrok Maning Leikai and surrounding areas.
During this operation, authorities seized a double-barrel gun, two mobile phones, and two SIM cards from the detainees, indicating involvement in extortion activities. Additionally, security forces conducted a subsequent operation on the same day, leading to the arrest of two more individuals linked to PREPAK (PRO) (G-5)—Lantham Poireiton Meitei alias Lanthouba (25) and Chirom Rostam Singh alias Chiromba (25)—who were apprehended from Yairipok Pechi under Yairipok police station.
Officials have stated that investigations are ongoing to uncover further connections and financial networks that facilitate these extortion efforts, highlighting the continued efforts of law enforcement to dismantle such organized crime activities in the region.
