Manipur Lecturers Suspend Strike After Government Assurance

Lecturers from the 2018 batch under the Lecturers’ Association Manipur (LAM) have called off their pen-down strike after reaching an agreement with state government officials. The strike, which began on July 21, was in response to long-standing delays in the regularisation of their services and unpaid salaries. During a recent meeting, both parties came to a mutual understanding. Officials confirmed that the groundwork for regularisation has been completed, and the relevant files will be submitted to the Governor-in-Council within two to three days for approval. The delay was attributed to the appointment of new senior officials and the time taken for procedural tasks. The government also agreed to revoke the transfer orders of three LAM executives, a key demand of the lecturers. The 603 lecturers, appointed in 2019, were promised regular pay from April 2023, but due to the unfinished regularisation process, they have not received any salaries so far.
