Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, reached out to displaced communities affected by ongoing ethnic tensions in the state during a visit to relief camps in Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts on Tuesday. This marked his first major engagement with those suffering due to the violence that has plagued the region. At the Sadhbhavna Mandap camp in Churachandpur, Governor Bhalla met with displaced residents who shared their struggles with him. The Governor listened attentively to their grievances and assured them of government support. “The Governor patiently heard the grievances faced by the IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) and promised to extend all possible assistance,” read an official statement.
The visit comes at a time when thousands of people continue to face displacement due to ethnic violence that erupted in Manipur last year. Governor Bhalla also engaged with civil society organizations in Churachandpur, urging leaders to work closely with the administration in peace-building efforts and to foster a collaborative environment for lasting resolution. In addition to his humanitarian outreach, the Governor emphasized the importance of education during his visit. He inaugurated an IT centre at Churachandpur College, interacting with students and encouraging them to focus on their education as a means to build a brighter future for the state.
Governor Bhalla later visited the Chingnu Thangjing Guest House relief camp in Moirang, Bishnupur District, where he distributed essential relief materials and continued his discussions with displaced individuals, gaining further insights into their ongoing challenges.
