Manipur CM N. Biren Singh announces successful poppy field destruction in Senapati

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced a significant success in the state’s war on drugs, with 8.6 acres of illicit poppy fields eradicated in the Senapati district. The joint operation underscores the government’s commitment to combating drug-related activities and preserving environmental and social stability.

A coordinated team comprising the Senapati Forest Department, Executive Magistrate, and Senapati Police, led by SDPO Senapati, carried out the operation in the Makuilongdi forest area under the Senapati Police Station’s jurisdiction. The targeted poppy fields were at the flowering stage and were completely destroyed during the operation. Following the operation, a case was registered at the Senapati Police Station, and further investigations are underway to identify those involved in the illegal cultivation.

Commending the efforts, CM Biren Singh stated on his official X handle, “The poppy plants, which were found to be in the initial stage of flowering, have been destroyed, and a case has been registered at Senapati Police Station for further investigation. I appreciate the combined team of the Forest Department, Police, and District Administration of Senapati for successfully destroying 8.6 acres of poppy fields along the border of the Makuilongdi jungle.”
