Manipur candidates face travel challenges after SSC centre closure

The Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO) has made an urgent appeal to Rakesh Ranjan, Chairman of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), to reconsider the removal of SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Tier-1 exam centres in Manipur’s Churachandpur and Ukhrul districts. The centres are set to be abolished from September 8, causing widespread concern among aspirants.

In a letter addressed to the SSC, the KSO expressed disappointment over the sudden cancellation, stating that it has disrupted the plans of many candidates. The organization highlighted logistical and financial difficulties, with candidates now forced to travel to alternative centres, such as Aizawl in Mizoram, where poor road conditions add to their burden.

The KSO also cited security concerns, especially for minority Kuki candidates, who face challenges traveling through buffer zones between Imphal Valley and Churachandpur. Despite assurances of security from the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur, the SSC has yet to reinstate the centres.
