Northeast India experienced a seismic jolt on Friday morning as two earthquakes struck the region, according to the National Centre of Seismology (NCS). The first tremor, measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale, was felt in Ukhrul district, Manipur, at 7:02 AM IST. The epicentre was pinpointed at latitude 25.04 N and longitude 94.20 E, with a depth of 30 kilometres.
Just minutes later, at 7:10 AM IST, a second quake hit Cooch Behar in West Bengal, registering a magnitude of 3.3. This tremor originated from a shallow depth of 5 kilometres at latitude 26.28 N and longitude 89.13 E.
No immediate reports of damage or casualties have emerged from either locality. Seismologists are closely monitoring the situation, as both areas are known to be part of a seismically active zone.
