A special POCSO court in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district has convicted Pynkloide alias Deibor Phyrnge for sexual offences against a minor girl, concluding a case that began with the girl’s disappearance in October 2024. The case was initiated when a woman reported her granddaughter missing from their shop-cum-residence at Umpleng on October 7, with a First Information Report (FIR) filed on October 9. The child was located the next day, leading to the registration of a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The police’s women wing conducted a thorough investigation, culminating in the submission of a chargesheet on January 2, 2025. After the trial, Special Judge Smti B. Khriam found Phyrnge guilty and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000 for one count, and ten years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 4(1) of the POCSO Act. This conviction highlights the district police’s dedication to effectively investigating and resolving crimes against children, as stated by the Superintendent of Police for East Jaintia Hills district.
