A cycle rally led by social activist Malem Thongam has made significant progress towards its goal of promoting peace and harmony in Manipur. The rally reached Pallel on Friday and is set to traverse all 16 districts of the state. It was warmly received at the Kakching market, where members of local organizations, including Kakching Apunba Nupi Lup and Kakching Keithel Apunba Ima Lup, felicitated Thongam before he continued on his journey.
Malem Thongam, a 27-year-old from Imphal East, initiated this rally amidst ongoing tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities that have persisted for over two years. His campaign aims to encourage both the Manipur state and the Government of India to engage in sincere efforts to find a permanent resolution to the conflict. Central to his message is the promotion of peace, mutual understanding, and unity among all communities in Manipur.
The rally, which began in Delhi, is part of a broader initiative that will include future phases starting from Kashmir. Thongam emphasized that the rally’s primary goal is to prompt constructive dialogue between the conflicting communities and their respective governments. He described the event as a humble effort to spread a message of tranquility and harmony across Manipur, urging all communities to cooperate in making this mission a success.
