The Assam government has sanctioned Rs 1201.16 crore for the establishment of the second medical college in Guwahati, marking it as the 14th medical college in the state. This approval includes a revised administrative nod from official sources. The new medical college, named Pragjyotishpur Medical College, will consist of two main campuses located at Kalapahar and Mohendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH). The Kalapahar campus is designed to accommodate 480 beds, 46 Intensive Care Units (ICUs), and 7 high-tech Operation Theatres (OTs), along with lodging facilities for 450 students and 100 interns. Meanwhile, the MMCH campus will boast 800 beds, 100 ICUs, advanced diagnostic resources, a dialysis unit, and 11 OTs. The National Medical Commission has previously approved an annual intake of 50 MBBS students for this new institution.
