While the state has no objections to such an investigation, the Supreme Court has asked the Maharashtra government why it should seek a CBI investigation into the alleged lynching of three people in Palghar in 2020. The Maharashtra government was ordered by the court to submit an affidavit in support of this.
The counsel for the Maharashtra government stated on Wednesday that the state has no objection to the petitioners’ claims that the case should be investigated by the federal investigation agency. “Why should we pass the order that you (Maharashtra) give it to the CBI?” a bench consisting of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala asked.
