Longleng DC issues alert after African Swine fever outbreak in Yachem Village

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Longleng has issued an official alert following the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) at a piggery farm in Yachem Village. The highly contagious viral disease has been confirmed through laboratory tests, leading to the deaths of several pigs in the region.

To curb the spread of ASF, authorities have imposed strict containment measures, designating two specific zones:

Infected Zone: A 1 km radius around the affected piggery farm.
Surveillance Zone: A 10 km radius beyond the infected zone.
In a bid to control the outbreak, the district administration has enforced several restrictions, including a ban on the movement and trade of pigs, piglets, pork, and pig-derived products within and from the infected zone. Authorities have also intensified monitoring of pig farms, markets, and slaughterhouses within the surveillance zone, urging farmers and vendors to report any unusual pig deaths or suspected ASF cases to the veterinary department immediately.

Officials have called for the cooperation of pig farmers, meat vendors, and the general public to contain the disease and prevent further losses. The DC has also warned that any violation of the containment measures may result in legal action under applicable laws.
