A solemn wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Late Maj. Bob Khathing Memorial in Awungtang, Ukhrul, on Saturday, commemorating his birth anniversary and honoring his legacy. Senior officials from Headquarters, 10 Assam Rifles, laid a wreath, accompanied by representatives from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Ukhrul, village headmen, and the Relengnao tribe leader. This participation underscored the strong civil-military bond and collective homage to Khathing, whose leadership in 1951 led to the peaceful establishment of Indian administrative presence in Tawang, integrating the region into the Union of India without conflict. The ceremony included a moment of silence to honor Khathing’s contributions, reaffirming the commitment of the people and security forces to peace, unity, and progress in Ukhrul.
