Even after the divorce, Kiran and Aamir have maintained cordial relations and have supported each other in their work. In an interview, Kiran revealed that she is happy after her divorce from Aamir.
During an interview with Faye D’Souza, Kiran Rao said, “It’s been a very amicable divorce” and added that she feels relationships need to be redefined from time to time because we are like- As we grow up we change as people.
Kiran also said that before Aamir, she was single for a long time and she enjoyed her freedom a lot. “I was alone, but now I have Azad (her son), so I don’t live alone,” she said.
She added, “I think loneliness is the only thing that most people are a little worried about when they get divorced or lose a partner. I didn’t feel lonely at all. In fact, I have the support of both the families, her family and my family. So, really, it’s only been good things. “It was a very amicable divorce.”
However, the ‘Missing Ladies’ director admitted that ending their 15-year-long marriage was not easy for both of them. He also revealed that it took Aamir “a while to get there emotionally and mentally.” Kiran also said that she knew she would avoid divorce because she wanted “independent and individual” time for herself and her life.
Kiran also said that there is a lot of love, respect, shared history, shared laughter, shared ideology and many more things that she and Aamir look for in each other and she did not want to lose it. They don’t need paper to define their relationship because they know what they mean to each other. “This is a partnership that will stand the test of time, despite divorce,”. He said that “We need different things and I thought this (separation) would make me happy and honestly, It was a very pleasant divorce”.
