Key Accused in NH-2 Arson Case Apprehended Alongside Five Valley-Based Insurgents in Manipur

Security forces and Manipur Police have arrested five cadres linked to valley-based insurgent groups and also apprehended a key accused in a recent arson case along National Highway-2, officials said on Tuesday.According to official sources, the arrests were made during an operation carried out on March 16 in the border belt under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The area lies along the Indo-Myanmar border and is considered sensitive. The operation was conducted between Border Pillars 73 and 75, where security personnel detained five suspected insurgents.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangjam Ashok Kumar Singh alias Khongthang from Waikhong village and Laishram Nipamacha Singh alias Loiya from Sagolmang Awang Leikai, both linked to PREPAK. Another accused, Thangjam Manimatum Meitei alias Sana from Sugnu Awang Leikai, is associated with KYKL. The remaining two, Laishram Inao Singh alias Sanamacha from Urup Makha Leikai and Chingangbam Shakti Singh alias Phairen from Lamlai Nongada, are said to be members of KCP-MFL. Officials said the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to control insurgent activities in the border areas and to prevent movement across the international boundary.

In a separate case, Manipur Police have arrested a key accused in connection with a truck burning incident that took place earlier this month along National Highway-2. The incident was reported on March 2 at Kabinam village in Senapati district. After an investigation, police arrested the main accused, identified as 51-year-old Ramayo Vashum from Kathiko Karong, on March 14. During the operation, police also seized a Maruti Gypsy vehicle and two mobile phones which were allegedly used in carrying out the crime.
