K. Vasuki, the senior IAS officer, has been allotted by the Kerala government as the state’s’secretary in charge of matters concerning external cooperation.’
Reacting to the Kerala government for allotting its own ‘foreign secretary,’ the BJP state unit on Saturday criticised the chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, over what the opposite party said was an obvious overreach and violation of the Constitution.’

The Foreign Secretary’s appointment as an IAS Officer in Kerala by CM Pinarayi Vijayan is a critical overreach and a violation of the Union List of our Constitution. The LDF government has no approval in foreign affairs.”

A dangerous precedent is set by the “unconstitutional move.” Surendran asked: Is the CM trying to develop Kerala as a separate nation?

According to The Times of India, the Kerala government has allotted senior IAS officer K Vasuki as’secretary in charge of the matters concerning external cooperation.

“K. Vasuki, the Secretary of Labour and Skills, will hold the additional charge of matters connected with external cooperation. The officer will coordinate and supervise all matters regarding this concern and incidental thereto.

“The general political administration department will help Vasuki until alternate arrangements are made. The resident commissioner of Kerala House in New Delhi has been instructed to help her cooperate with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi and the Indian ministry and missions abroad,” the order mentioned.

After speaking with the newspaper, KM Chandrasekhar, the ex-cabinet secretary, was ‘doubtful’ about the appointment.

“International relations are within the Centre’s domain. If any state department wants to help from abroad, they can always approach the MEA or the Indian embassy.
