Manipur Police apprehended two active members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive Wing Group) [KCP (PWG)] on January 14. The arrests were made near Machang Bakery Shop at Uripok Mayai Leikai in Imphal West District. The detained individuals, identified as Khangembam Sanaton Singh alias Sanatomba or Loya (51) and Thokchom Tiken Singh alias Ibungo (43), were allegedly involved in a series of extortion activities targeting shops and showrooms across the Imphal area. Their illegal activities had reportedly caused distress among local business owners, prompting police action.
During the operation, police seized several items from their possession, including four mobile phones with four SIM cards, a side bag, two wallets, two Aadhaar cards, a four-wheeler vehicle, and cash amounting to ₹5,140. These items are believed to have been used in facilitating their extortion schemes. Authorities have intensified efforts to curb such unlawful activities by militant groups in the region. A senior police official stated, “The arrests highlight our commitment to ensuring safety and security for the people of Imphal. We urge the public to report any suspicious activities to help us in this mission.”
The KCP (PWG), a proscribed militant outfit, has been known for its involvement in various illegal activities, including extortion and intimidation.
