KCP cadre detained after major terrorist hideout in Manipur was discovered

In a major crackdown on insurgency, Manipur Police arrested a militant of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) and unearthed a key insurgent hideout during a series of operations across the state.

The arrested militant, identified as 31-year-old Waikhom Loveson Singh, was picked up from Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak in Imphal West for his involvement in extortion-related activities. Police officials said Singh was an active operative of the KCP (PWG), a group known for its violent tactics.

In a separate but related operation, joint security forces launched extensive search and area domination exercises across the hill and valley districts, targeting fringe and vulnerable areas. During the operation in the forested region of Heirok Part-III Uyok Ching under Thoubal district, forces came under fire from suspected KCP militants. The retaliatory response led to the discovery of a well-equipped hideout used intermittently by armed insurgents.

A significant cache of weapons and tactical supplies was recovered, including an SLR rifle with magazine, a 12-bore gun, 7.62 mm ammunition, tear smoke and stun shells, camouflage uniforms, bulletproof jackets, medical kits, and three vehicles including a Tata Safari and two Gypsies.

Police have termed the bust as a significant blow to militant networks operating in the region. Further investigations are underway.
