Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), an organization based in Garo Hills, has voiced strong opposition to any review or weakening of the current job quota policy. This stance follows Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s announcement regarding the presentation of an updated reservation policy report in the ongoing Assembly budget session. AHAM demands the maintenance of the existing reservation framework, asserting that any reconsideration could be perceived as an attack on constitutional safeguards and the rights of marginalized and indigenous communities. The organization warns that altering the policy could lead to public outrage and social unrest. Additionally, AHAM has reiterated its demand for Tura to be declared the Winter Capital of the state, emphasizing that this demand is rooted in principles of justice and regional equity. Despite previous memorandums submitted to the government on this issue since 2020, a decisive action from the government remains pending.
