Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary has initiated a bold reform agenda aimed at modernizing India’s skill development sector, following a comprehensive review of the Directorate General of Training (DGT) and its affiliated institutions. This strategic overhaul focuses on enhancing the capabilities of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs), and related entities like the National Instructional Media Institute (NIMI) and Central Staff Training and Research Institute (CSTARI).
During the review, Chaudhary lauded the DGT’s expansion efforts, which have seen the addition of over 5000 institutions in the past decade. However, he emphasized the urgent need for rejuvenation, advocating for a transition to blended learning methodologies at ITIs and NSTIs. The minister underscored the importance of forging stronger ties with industries through flexible Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and implementing a Dual System of Training to align education with market demands.
Chaudhary highlighted the pivotal role of ITIs and NSTIs in cultivating a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and entrepreneurship. He called for the modernization of infrastructure, curriculum, and training programs to cater to emerging sectors and boost employability.The minister’s vision includes leveraging digital platforms such as the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) to optimize training delivery and accessibility.
