S Supongmeren Jamir, the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) from Nagaland, has called on the Central government to expedite the implementation of two crucial agreements signed with Naga political groups. In a statement, Jamir, who also serves as the president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), emphasized the long-standing sacrifices made by Naga national workers and underscored that the Naga people are on the brink of achieving a long-awaited resolution to the decades-old Naga political issue. He stated that the time is ripe for Nagas to stand firm and ensure that the agreements, namely the “Framework Agreement”
signed on August 3, 2015, with the NSCN-IM and the “Agreed Position” signed on November 17, 2017, with the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups, are upheld and utilized as the foundation to fulfill the aspirations of the Naga people. Acknowledging the courage and wisdom of successive Central governments in facilitating the signing of these agreements, Jamir cautioned that the journey towards lasting peace is not yet complete. He stressed that the agreements must be honored and implemented without further delay.
“The implementation of these agreements is crucial. Delays only erode the trust and hope built over decades of negotiations,” Jamir said. “It is imperative that the government respects the core principles and objectives of these historic agreements and recognizes the rights and identity of the Naga people.”
