Investment prospects in focus as Japan minister holds talks with Assam Chief Minister

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in discussions with Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Iwao Horii, and Ambassador Keiichi Ono in Dispur, aiming to position Assam as a strategic investment hub. Emphasizing Assam’s increasing economic prospects, the Chief Minister outlined advantages such as investor-friendly policies, enhanced connectivity, significant infrastructure initiatives, and its role as a gateway to Southeast Asia under the Act East Policy.

The dialogue focused on expanding Japanese investments across various sectors, notably in infrastructure, renewable energy, manufacturing, information technology, semiconductor industries, skill development, and sustainable growth. Interest from Japanese companies, particularly in a semiconductor project in Jagiroad, was highlighted. The meeting also delved into creating employment opportunities in Japan for Assam’s youth through Japanese language training.

Minister Iwao Horii extended an invitation for the Chief Minister to visit Japan to strengthen bilateral collaboration, while the Chief Minister reciprocated by inviting the Prime Minister of Japan and Japanese business leaders to Assam to enhance mutual relations and explore investment prospects. The meeting was attended by Assam’s Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. KK Dwivedi, and other senior officials.
