The Working Committee (WC) of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), led by Convener N. Kitovi Zhimomi and accompanied by all Co-conveners, met with AK Mishra, the Government of India’s representative, in Dimapur on February 19. The meeting was aimed at expediting the long-awaited Indo-Naga political solution, with a strong emphasis on uniting all Naga political factions under a common platform.
According to a statement from the WC’s media cell, the committee acknowledged Mishra’s visit as a significant step in advancing the peace process. During the discussions, the Working Committee reiterated the need for a unified and restructured platform that includes all Naga Political Groups, civil societies, and other key stakeholders. The committee stressed that any resolution must align with the principles outlined in the Agreed Position and the Framework Agreement, which they consider the only viable pathway to a final settlement.
Highlighting their unwavering commitment to the hard-earned “Agreed Position,” the Working Committee expressed their willingness to go to any extent, even considering a change in their nomenclature from WC/NNPGs to a more inclusive name. They explained that their primary role was completed when the Agreed Position was signed with the Government of India on November 17, 2017, and negotiations were concluded on October 31, 2019. However, they remain dedicated to ensuring that all Naga Political Groups, regardless of prior agreements, are included in the final resolution process.
Following a detailed discussion on the urgent matters at hand, the Working Committee formally urged the Government of India to draft a common document by integrating both the Agreed Position and the Framework Agreement. The committee believes that this approach will help bridge differences and facilitate a comprehensive and lasting political settlement for the Naga people.
